About Carl

I know how difficult it can be to reach out for support...

When I was 35, I went through a challenging period in my own life and found myself needing therapy. What stayed with me most from that experience was not techniques or advice, but the experience of somebody truly being present with me during a difficult time. That experience shaped the way I work today.

As a counsellor, my focus is on creating a space where people feel safe enough to be themselves without fear of judgement. I believe healing and change often begin when somebody feels genuinely heard, accepted, and understood.

My approach is person-centred and integrative, with a strong trauma-informed foundation. I work relationally and collaboratively, helping clients explore their experiences at a pace that feels manageable and supportive for them.

I draw from different therapeutic approaches, including person-centred therapy and CBT, and may offer gentle psychoeducation where it feels helpful. However, I never want therapy to feel overly clinical or like a list of techniques. The relationship itself is central to the work.

Carl Ellis Counselling

My experience

Alongside private practice, I have extensive experience working with schools, young people, and individuals navigating anxiety, grief, trauma, and emotional overwhelm.

Clients often come to therapy feeling stuck, exhausted, disconnected from themselves, or struggling to cope with the impact of past experiences. Together, we work towards greater understanding, emotional awareness, confidence, and healthier relationships,  both with themselves and others.

At the heart of my practice is something very simple: I want people to feel they do not have to face things alone.
